Thank you for visiting. Featuring Oyama Self-Watering Planters one of the most unique planters to be found. These planters can be used for growing African Violets, Streptocarpus, Orchid, Begonia, and other flowering house plants. Also found on this site are the number one solution mixtures that provide a complete nutrition solution for your plants.
The Oyama planter is a moisture sensitive self-watering mechanism utilizing a control valve to effect watering of the soil in a liner of the planter upon automatic detection of a predetermined level of dryness of the soil. The planter uses a weight-based system of detecting the amount of moisture in the soil to control the automatic release of a predetermined amount of water into the soil for rehydration thereof. As the weight of the soil increases with the volume of water, the valve is automatically closed to terminate the irrigation process.
OYAMA PLANTERS
WITH AN OYAMA PLANTER YOU WATER CORRECTLY EVERY TIME
OYAMA PLANTERS are a unique 2 part, self watering planter that keep your housepalnts healty and looking their best all year long. Both parts are permanently marked with lines that tell you exactly how much soil, perlite and water to use to ensure violet plants receive the proper balances of nutrients and moisture.
Oyama Planters are desinged to be used with both "perlite" (natural, absorbent, pearl-like rock) and soil. Perlite used below the soil keeps the soil from being submerged in water, and acts like a wick to obsorb the moisture and nutrients.
The most common challenge a grower faces is knowing when and how much to water a plant. With Oyama Planters, you always know when and how much to water. Simply check the soil in the inner pot and the water level in the outer pot. If both are dry add water to the bottom line in the outer pot. In a few weeks, you should be able to establish watering intervals, based on your plants specific requirements.
Because of Oyama's unique planter design, some plants can go up to 10 days between watering intervals... Yes, even the NEW 1-1/2" Mini Planters do not require daily watering!!
Each Oyama Planter is a self water-absorbing planter permanently marked with lines that designate the correct amount of perlite, soil, and water/fertilizer solution. These lines help insure plants receive the proper balances of nutrients, soil-less mixture, perlite, and fertilizer solution essential for plant growth.

HOW IT WORKS
Each Oyama Planter is a self water-absorbing planter permanently marked with lines that designate
the correct amount of perlite, soil, and water/fertilizer solution.
These lines help insure plants receive the proper balances of nutrients, soil-less mixture, perlite,
and fertilizer solution essential for plant growth.
It has been found that plants grow best when the water and nutrients are absorbed in the natural way through
it's rootsystem (otherwise known as "wicking"), rather than from "top-watering".
Oyama Planters are designed to be used with both perlite and a light soil-less mix.
Perlite is a natural, pearl-like rock, that when heated, softens and expands up to 20 times its volume,
making it very absorbent.
Perlite is used below the soil, absorbs the moisture, acts like a wick, and evenly distributes the
nutrients through the root system of the plant. Because of these characteristcs,
perlite becomes the key element yo growing healthy palnts in the Oyama Planters.

What you need:
1 - Oyama Planter
1 - Plant to be potted
Perlite
Water / Fertilizer Solution
Soil less mixture
Inner Pot: Start by taking the inner pot and filling it with moistened perlite from the base up to the perlite line. Make sure the bottom of the inner pot that sits in the water well is thoroughly filled with perlite.
Next place a layer of soil mixture (filling about 3/4 from the soil line) directly on top of the perlite. Remove the plant from the original pot and cut off old soil from the bottom of the root ball with a sharp knif. Remove all loose soil from the top of the soil mixture. Fill soil mixture loosley to the bottom line of planter, making sure the roots and any neck is covered. Using your fingers gently press down on the soil mixture, but do not pack.
Outer Pot: To prevent root shock while transplanting. It is advisable to dilute the water with nutrients (i.e. Vitamin B1). Fill water diluted solution to the uppermost line of the outer pot. Gently rest the inner pot inside the outer pot.
Wait a few hours and check the water level. You will note that the self water absorbing system begins to work immediately, making sure your plants receive constant moister and nutrients. Once all the water has been absorbed, add more only up to the most bottom line of the outer pot. Check the water level regularly.Only add water once the water in the outer pot has been completely absorbed and the soil feels a little dry. After a few weeks once the watering intervals have been established you will notice that your plant will require very little attention and less watering. Depending on the type and size of your plant, you may go up to 10 days between watering intervals. However, it is important to note here that although Oyama Planters do provide the growers a simplified approach to growing, it is still up to the grower to follow these directions and check the plant on a regular basis.
